Planning for the first week of school can be stressful!! But it doesn’t have to be!! I love using easy to prep activities and centers for my students during that first week and even month of the school year. It makes teaching so much more enjoyable to be planned and ready. ๐
BACK TO SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN KIT
This year, I decided to pull together some of my favorite essential activities for the beginning of the year and put them into one pack. Last year, I spent a lot of time using my Back to School Centers, and these are still something that I plan to put into our stations. I was ready for some new printables, crafts, and activities to keep my students engaged!
CENTERS AND PUZZLES
I created a fun coloring matching center where students match a colored object to the correct crayon. This puzzle will be perfect since we work a lot on our colors during the first few weeks. I also added some fun gum ball counting puzzles to our math stations. Counting is a skill that is always important to work on!
And I just love these fun popcorn alphabet puzzles! My students will use these for the first couple months of the year to make sure that they really master letter recognition and letter matching. We will even practice putting these cards in ABC order. Then we will move on to more of our Alphabet Centers.
TRACING AND COLORING PAGES
Fine motor skills are so important during the beginning of the school year! I love having lots of tracing pages prepped and ready for my students to work on. We can use pencils, crayons, or even markers to work on tracing lines and shapes on these pages. My Kindergarten Kit pack even includes zig-zag lines, and all of the basic shapes for extra practice!
And of course I needed a page for students to write their name and draw a picture of themselves. This pack even includes options for students to draw their name and a picture at the start of each season! These will be great for a memory book. ๐
CRAFTS AND CROWNS!
I LOVE doing a fun craft with my students that I can have on display during Back to School Night or Open House. This cupcake craft will take some time, but will be a great way for my students to work on their fine motor skills:
There are different templates for the bottom of the cupcake, and students can draw a picture or fill out information about themselves and their favorite things! I also love that this project includes a spot for a student picture.
One of my favorite things to do is to send my students home wearing a crown or a hat!
These crowns are easy to prep. Just print, have students color, and then attach a construction paper strip around it using a stapler! My Kindergarten Kit includes several options that can be edited to include students’ names too. ๐
