I think that Halloween is probably my favorite holiday! I love reading Halloween stories to my class, and doing fun Halloween projects too. These Halloween counting puzzles are perfect to use for the whole month of October! I love that they include practice for numbers 0-20.
LET’S PREP!
To prep this activity for my students, I printed all of the pieces on cardstock and laminated for durability. Then I cut out the each puzzle. Make sure to also cut on the “zig-zag” line to separate each candy corn from the counting picture.
LET’S PLAY!
I first played this game at my teacher table with students during our math centers. I always like to introduce centers this way so that students understand how to play before it becomes an independent center! My students have already been LOVING our Halloween Centers and our Fall Centers, so I knew that these would be a hit too!
I separated the game into two piles: candy corn numbers, and the counting pieces.
Students picked a counting piece first, and counted how many Halloween objects were on that puzzle piece. Then, they looked for the correct candy corn with that matching number.
We kept playing until all of our puzzles were matched correctly!
My student also love using our Fall Leaves Counting Cards to work on their counting skills. Our other Halloween Centers have been perfect to work on all of our literacy and math skills too. I know that my students love having themed centers to use during this fun month!
Our Halloween Emergent Readers are another fun way that we like to celebrate during October! I love watching my young readers feel so confident as they enjoy reading these stories:
